Access statement for Nab Cottage

We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our 7 bedroom guest house. The following is a summary of our provision.

Pre-Arrival
 
•There is a bus stop 5 minutes from here, at White Moss common. Although there isn’t an official stop here, the bus driver will usually drop you off outside the cottage if you request it.
•The train station (Windermere) is 15 minutes away by car. 
•There is a local taxi service that has accessible taxis if required and we can make a booking for you.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
 

•There are 2 gates to the drive, over cattle grids, one coming from the north and one from the south.
•No marked parking bays but there is ample room for 12 cars
•The surface is level, flat and gravel
•We can assist guests with luggage
•Rydal village is a few minutes walk from Nab Cottage
 
Main Entrance & Reception
 

•The front door is always locked and on a push button code we will give you on arrival. There is a bell at waist level.
•Inside the door there is a narrow corridor running at a minimum of 70cm. The hallway is carpeted.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

•We have no downstairs bedroom
•There are 5 stairs, turning around 2 more and then another 5 up to the landing. The stairs are 900cm wide with a rail on one side
•The stairwell is lit day and night
•Dog water bowl and food bowl (and food if requested in advance) are available on request
•The dining room, TV room and sitting room are on the ground floor
•All 7 bedrooms are on the first floor
•4 of the bedrooms are en-suite with step in shower, basin and toilet. There is a separate bathroom with attached shower and small toilet. The bathroom and toilet are off the landing and down a 20cm step. The bathroom is through a small door 195x60cm and down a step. It measures 180x220 and has a full length bath with mixer shower. There’s a toilet and basin in the bathroom. Next to the bathroom is a separate toilet through a door 195x65. This toilet measures 120x55cm minimum

 

Dining Room  & Lounge

•Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor.  There are no steps
•Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request
•Tables have underspace of between 66 and 73cm high  with legs on each corner

 

Bedrooms
 

•There are 7 bedrooms, all on the first floor. All doors are inward opening with sprung fire closers fitted.
•Room 1. 6ft bed 90cm space around sides and foot of bed. Window seat 45x120cm. Bathroom 90x240cm with step in shower, toilet and basin
•Room 2. Single 3ft bed against one wall. 120cm space at side and foot of bed
•Room 3. 5ft bed 125cmat sides of bed and 60cm at foot onto the window seat measuring 120x30cm
•Room 4. Family room. 4ft6in bed with 80cm at sides and foot with 3ft bunk beds into the corner of the room. There’s a window seat 120x34cm and bathroom 90x240cm with step in shower (limited head space 195cm), toilet and basin
•Room 5. This room and room 6 are at the back of the cottage up 2 steps. There are two 3ft beds with 40-120 cm between beds and walls and 100cm at the foot of each bed. There’s a window seat 120x30cm
•Room 6 can either be a double bedded room or a twin bedded room, with the same dimensions as room 5 plus an en-suite bathroom measuring 240x90 with step in shower, toilet and basin
•Room 7 is accessed down a narrow corridor 180x65cm and then a step down 30 cm into the room. This room also can be twin or double with 40cm to each side when a double and 140 at the foot of the bed. There’s a corner bathroom measuring 140 sq cm
•Furniture is moveable on request

Grounds and Gardens

•We have a small enclosed garden (flower border and lawn) to the side of the cottage, a longer stretch of lawn at the front with tables and chairs. There is an outdoor hose and spade (if your dog uses the area too)
•There are many walks in all directions from the cottage and we have maps available in the sitting room

Additional Information
 
•Children are welcomed. We provide high chair, a cot and a listening service. 
•We welcome walkers and cyclists. We have secure storage facilities, information on routes etc. and drying area
•There is access to the lake for swimming etc. and guests can use our Canadian canoe on the lake at their own risk
•We are happy to keep medication/food in our main fridge on request
